Revenue Operations Consultant: Cost, Scope, and Fit
What a revenue operations consultant costs ($5,000 to $15,000 a month ongoing), the five numbers to pull first, and how to tell a RevOps problem from a leadership problem.
Most revenue leaks sit in the handoffs, not in any one team. I find them, then stay for the part where behavior changes.
What does a revenue operations consultant do?
A revenue operations consultant aligns sales, marketing and customer success around one pipeline and one set of numbers: CRM, stages, lead routing, forecasting, reporting. Project builds commonly run $10,000 to $50,000. Ongoing fractional support runs $5,000 to $15,000 a month. A seat that owns the revenue outcome rather than the reporting runs $8,000 to $25,000 a month.

03 Systems problem or leadership problem
A dashboard has never closed a deal
Most RevOps engagements end with a clean CRM, accurate reporting, and the same revenue. The system was never the constraint. It just made the constraint visible.
Here is the test. If nobody trusts the pipeline report, that is a systems problem and worth fixing first. If the report is accurate and the team still misses, the problem is how the team is led. No configuration fixes that.

A revenue operations consultant aligns sales, marketing and customer success around one pipeline and one set of numbers. The work is usually the CRM, the pipeline stages, lead routing, forecasting, and reporting, so the leadership team argues about the business instead of arguing about whose spreadsheet is right.
What does a revenue operations consultant cost?
Project work commonly runs $10,000 to $50,000 for a CRM and reporting build. Ongoing fractional RevOps support runs $5,000 to $15,000 a month. A senior operating seat that owns the revenue outcome, not just the system, runs $8,000 to $25,000 a month in the US market. Mine starts at $10,000.
Do I need RevOps or a sales leader?
Ask whether the numbers are wrong or the results are wrong. If nobody trusts the pipeline report, that is RevOps. If the report is accurate and the team still misses, no dashboard fixes that. You need someone leading the team.
When is RevOps the wrong first hire?
When revenue is under about $5M with one small sales team. At that size the CRM is not the constraint, the number of real conversations is. Buying a systems rebuild before you have volume produces a beautiful funnel with nothing in it.
What is the difference between RevOps and sales operations?
Sales operations serves the sales team: quotas, territories, comp, pipeline hygiene. Revenue operations covers the whole customer path, marketing through renewal, and owns the handoffs between them. Most leaks below $30M happen at those handoffs, not inside any one team.
What are the first numbers to pull?
Five. Leads by source, speed to first contact, contact to appointment, appointment to close, and retention or renewal rate. Every revenue problem below $30M shows up in one of those five. Pull them before you buy any software.
Can a RevOps consultant fix a missed target?
Only if the target was missed because of routing, capacity or measurement. If it was missed because the team is not having enough of the right conversations, the fix is leadership and cadence. Being honest about which one you have is most of the value of the first call.
How long does a RevOps engagement take?
A clean audit and reporting rebuild is four to eight weeks. Changing how the team actually operates takes a quarter minimum, because it is a habit change, not a configuration change. Anyone promising both in 30 days is selling the configuration.
Do you do the CRM build yourself?
No. I am not the person configuring your CRM, and you should not pay a senior operating rate for that work. I define what the system has to answer, then work with your admin or an implementation partner to build it. Then I stay for the part that is harder, which is people using it.
What happens on the first call?
Thirty minutes. You bring the bottleneck. I tell you what I would do in your seat. Whether we work together or not.
