01 Zillow, 2019 to 2022

The Go-To-Market team that launched Zillow Flex

In 2019, Zillow brought its Flex program to market. Flex is the program now called Zillow Preferred. The Go-To-Market team behind the launch was 15 people. I was one of them.

Over three years, Zillow Flex, now Zillow Preferred, grew from zero to $300M. I led a team of Zillow Growth Advisors, the in-person advisors who worked directly with partner brokerages and teams, and helped scale partners across the East Coast.

I built the in-person partner training program, starting in Atlanta. When COVID shut down in-person work, I scaled the training nationally. I also went through Zillow’s leadership development program, the internal track Zillow uses to identify its next generation of leaders.

02 PLACE

National Director of Sales Operations

At PLACE, I served as National Director of Sales Operations. PLACE is the Goldman Sachs-backed real estate platform that reached a $1B valuation. The role was national: sales operations across the platform’s partner network.

03 Before Zillow

Twenty years inside high-growth companies

Before Zillow, I spent my career running sales and operations inside growth companies. As Regional Sales Director, I recruited, hired, and trained the sales team at the company L.A. Fitness later acquired at $20M.

Total: twenty years of operating work inside high-growth companies, most of it building the teams and the cadence that carry revenue.

04 Now

Independent Growth Partner

I now work as an independent growth partner for real estate team owners and brokers. Four teams at a time. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, working with owners across the United States.

The engagement: I take a seat inside the business, carry a revenue target, run the calls the owner has been deferring, and hire the person who takes the seat from me.

Case studies: ChuckTown Homes, 10 to 90 producers and Dwelli, where Michael was the first Growth Advisor in the Flex program. The Zillow years in detail: Zillow Preferred coaching and growth partner work.

Questions

The record, answered plainly

What did Michael Schuerman do at Zillow?+

He was one of 15 on the Zillow Flex go-to-market team, built the in-person partner training in Atlanta, then scaled that training nationally when COVID closed the rooms. He later led a Growth Advisor team and served as National Director of the program now called Zillow Preferred.

What industries has he worked in?+

Fitness, advertising, technology, nonprofit, and real estate services. The through line is the same in each: a founder-led company that needed the sales and operating side built rather than advised.

Is he a consultant?+

No. He's a growth partner. He takes a seat inside the business, owns decisions, and carries the number. The deliverable is the result, not a deck.

Where is he based and who does he work with?+

Atlanta, Georgia, working with real estate team owners and brokers across the United States. Most of the work happens remotely with travel when the room requires it.
